It has long been a dream of mine to set up my own charity and this will be the main focus of my collections and donations from now on.
To be called the Andrew Goodings Foundation, in memory of my late husband who died an alcoholic in 1995. I know there are many places that offer help to drug adicts and alcoholics but what tends to happen is that people go somewhere to dry out, or even have the courage to do it themselves, but then they are sent back to the same environment that brought the addiction on in the first place. If you have money you can stay in a centre for many months, have counselling etc but, as is often the case, by the time people are ready to get better the money, support of family and loved ones has all been exhausted. Alternatively centres like the one I am proposing are attached to a specific religeon.
What I want to do is open a centre where all religeons can be embraced or not as individuals chose. People can come and stay in a peaceful environment for as long as it takes them to rehabilitate themselves. The centre will have two arms the charitable side where clients will help out with the running of the place, to regain their self-respect and sense of self-worth, discover new talents and use the facilities and therapies to heal themselves. It will also have a business side which will offer workshops, healing training, retreats, etc. This will be to help fund everything.
The business plan is done (and will be available on the site when I can work out how to attach the document) and I have put out to the universe for the necessary people to come into my life to help with this. Firstly a good solicitor to help set up the structure of the charity, if you know anyone then please pass this on to them. Then a fundraiser to help get the funds together, to buy an appropriate property and get the whole thing going.
When I first had this idea I made a list of what I would need to be able to make the dream come true. Business skills to run it, healing and counselling skills to be able to recognise good genuine therapists to work there. Good organisational skills, I already had those I was an executive secretary. So I set about acquiring the rest. A post graduate degree in strategic marketing and business management and a job working in a global management conosultancy. Consecutively learning counselling skills through becoming a Master NLP Practitoner and doing my bereavement and counselling training in Psychosynthesis. Along the way I rediscovered my psychic and healing abilities becoming a Reiki Master in 1999 and since then I have been combining all these skills in helping others. Recently I have been asking myself what has been stopping me. Confidence, fear of failure, same as usual so now I am just getting on and doing it.
