What are Chakras Chakras are your body’s energy system which connects you to the Earth and to universal energy. You need a basic understanding of the chakras in order to psychically protect yourself. The seven major chakras are situated in the middle of the body, roughly running along the length of the spine. They vibrate at different frequencies, and are different colours: red, orange, yellow, green/pink, blue, purple and white. Each chakra relates to different emotional and spiritual issues, as well as various endocrine glands and nerve centres.
The chakras have a direct connection to your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing. Chakras act as step-down transformers, converting subtle energy – prana, chi, reiki, or universal cosmic energy, to be used by the hormonal, nervous and cellular systems of your physical body. Just as you take in air and food to fuel your molecular building blocks, so the aura and chakras absorb subtle energy, which is also fundamental for life.
By opening your chakras, you can draw in universal energy to protect yourself. Many other chakras exist, 189 in total, running around the body’s meridian system. Here I will refer only to the seven main ones as per the illustration and also to the foot chakras. We will work with the breath because you always have it with you. The more you use your imagination the stronger and more enhanced your experience and your protection will be. Try to see, sense and feel as much as you can. The more you use your imagination the more real it will be. If you imagine or see something differently then do not worry, whatever you imagine is just right for you. There is no right or wrong way to do this, as long as you feel safe and protected you will be so.
My CDs take you on journeys to open, close and protect yourself and they are very good to use as a starting point. Or you can personalise the technique by making your own. Decide what you want to say and then put it on tape to allow yourself to follow the instructions. Remember to leave lots of pauses to give time to let your imagination flow. Some people see chakras as flowers opening, others might see clear crystals taking on colour, or spinning vortexes. Whatever you see or sense is just right for you. See below for information on each chakra. I must point out at this stage that the colours etc given are the accepted colours when the chakras are vibrating at the 3rd dimensional level of our physical world. These colours do change when we are vibrating at higher levels more later. Root or Base Chakra (One)
Location - Perineum, base of spin Coccyx , between legs Colour - Red Developmental Age - 0 – 3 years Sense - Smell Glands / organs - Adrenals, kidneys, spinal column, colon, legs, bones Concerns - Survival, security, belonging, being here and now Out of balance - Fear, overly concerned with material security. Jungle mentality, airy-fairy-not-really-here people. Feeling unsafe, lack of security, no sense of belonging. Body symptoms - Problems in kidneys, rectum, hips, bowel spasm, piles, colitis, crohn’s disease, constipation Qualities / lessons - Matters relating to the material world, success. The physical body, mastery of the body, grounding, individuality, stability, security, stillness, health, courage, patience. Negative qualities - Self-centred, insecurity, violence, greed, anger. Overly concerned with one’s physical survival. Tension in the spine. Soul Issue - To acknowledge the soul inhabits a body that is part of the living universe. Out of balance - Creative blocks need to possess another. Fear of intimacy. No sense of mystery and magic. Body symptoms - Problems related to the reproductive system Qualities / lessons - Giving and receiving, emotions, desire, pleasure, sexual/passionate love, change, movement, assimilation of new ideas, health, family, tolerance, surrender, working harmoniously and creatively with others Negative qualities - Promiscuous, anger, hurt, stuck in rut Soul Issue - To experience intimacy with another with a sense of self-respect.
